MERRITT – As it comes to the end of October, the weather is starting to get colder which means snow could be on its way.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement along the Coquihalla as snow over the weekend is possible.
“As a colder airmass arrives with a Pacific weather system on Friday, periods of snow will likely give some accumulations from Friday afternoon to Saturday over the elevated highway passes,” said Environment Canada officials.
The special weather statement is in effect on the Coquihalla between Merritt and Kamloops and also between Merritt and Hope. The Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna is also involved in the statement.
Officials advise drivers to adjust their driving with changing road conditions as visibility may be reduced so turn on the lights and maintain a safe following distance.
Most highway routes in the Southern Interior requires winter tires or chains by Oct. 1.
Check weather alerts and DriveBC before heading out.
