Precipitation helps fire crews over the weekend

A wet weekend throughout the Interior has helped fire crews battling 250 active fires across BC.
The July Mountain fire did see growth over the weekend to 2,000 hectares however precipitation on Sunday lessened fire behaviour.
“Crews continue to have success securing the southwest flank of the fire, and there was no growth to the south,” reads the file.
The blaze is within 1-km of the Coquihalla but is not immediately threatening the highway.
The Brenda Creek fire remained at 824 hectares over the weekend.
“The fire received 1-2 mm of scattered precipitation (Sunday). While that has provided a slight reprieve in fire behaviour, conditions are forecast to return to being warm and dry over the next two days. The fire and surrounding areas remain under thick smoke conditions,” reads the file.
Evacuation orders for Spences Bridge are expected to be rescinded today (Aug 3) at noon.
The Lytton Creek fire continues to burn 51,210 hectares.
“Smoky skies, precipitation, lower temperatures and increased relative humidity resulted in decreased fire activity,” reads the file.
The Spius Creek fire remains at seven hectares.
