Fewer names on ballot as City releases civic election candidates names

Voters heading to the polls won’t need as much time as they did in 2022 to cast their ballots for the upcoming Civic Elections on Oct. 17.

Eight candidates will be on the ballot vying for six council positions. In 2018, there were 18 in the running.

All of the current city council are running for another term. Adam Etchart, Wendy Charney, Manuel Olguin, Yvette Baxter, Dana Egan and Paul Petrozi will face a challenge from newcomer Steve Pimm and former councilor Melvina White.

There are two candidates vying for the seat of Mayor in the City of Merritt. They include incumbent Mike Goetz and newcomer Gordon Keyser.

Gordon Swan and Justin Jepsen will look to retain their seats for one of three positions of school trustee for the Nicola Similkameen School District 58.

Also looking for a seat are former Lower Nicola Indian Band Chief Stu Jackson, Lower Nicola Indian Band School Principal Leroy Slanzi and Tim Manuel.

The elections will be held on October 17th with advance polling October 7 and 14.
