Merritt Emergency Room closed again, ten hours after reopening

The Nicola Valley Hospital reopened Saturday morning after a 25-hour closure which began Friday morning ; only to shut down once again Saturday evening (Aug 8) at 6 p.m.

This marks the eighth closure of the Emergency Department in 2026 and third this week.

No definitive reason was given for the closure as per Interior Health’s notice of the closure, however staffing is believed to be the reason.

Patients requiring emergency care during the closure are being directed to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The Nicola Valley Hospital will reopen on Sunday August 9 at 8:00 a.m.
