BREAKING: Guichon Creek wildfire near Logan Lake classified as ‘being held’

The Guichon Creek wildfire west of Logan Lake is not expected to get any bigger as crews work to snuff out the now smouldering 145-hectare burn.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has classified the fire as ‘being held’ meaning they do not expect it to grow past existing containment lines.

Wildfire Service officials say crews reported no further growth over the weekend.

“No growth was observed by crews working overnight last night (August 1) into today (August 2). Fire behaviour is currently Rank 1, meaning a smoulder ground fire with white smoke and no open flame,” said the BCWS.

The BCWS and Logan Lake Fire Department will now work on mopping up and extinguishing hot spots that are burning more deeply.

However, winds are still expected to remain strong in the region.

“Winds are expected to be out of the southwest today and forecasted to be elevated with gusts ranging from 60 to 80 km/h due to a passing cold front,” said the BCWS.

The update comes after residents expressed unease over the quickly growing fire.

The District of Logan Lake and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District have yet to lift their respective Evacuation Alerts as a result of the fire.
