National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration happening this weekend
Many events will be held this weekend to mark the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day coming up Sunday June 21 to recognize and honor the cultures, heritage, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
Here in the Nicola Valley, there will be celebrations beginning on Saturday, June 20 in Lower Nicola with an event at the Arbour to celebrate ancestors with a celebration known as “We Sing and Dance.”
The event is sponsored by the Sc’exmx Parish-Nicola Valley and the Territory of the People Anglican Church, gets underway Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with performances from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. A dance featuring Little Richie and the Fendermen wraps up the event at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile Sunday, CNA and K’en T’em Limited Partnership will host a celebration from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 3299 River Ranch Road across from Peter’s No Frills.
The day will feature music, dancing, food, and activities to mark the special occasion with everyone invited to attend.
