Two people were sent to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops with serious injuries following a motorcycle crash in Merritt.
Merritt RCMP say officers responded to a stretch of Voght Street at around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday (June 2).
According to RCMP, the motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Voght Street when the driver accelerated. After crossing the Highway 5A overpass near the Walmart in Merritt, police say the rider lost control of the motorcycle and left the roadway to the right, ejecting the motorcyclist and the passenger.
DriveBC first reported of a closure on Highway 5A shortly after 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. The roadway reopened at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday after investigators and a collision reconstructionist assessed the scene.
“This is a very serious incident and our thoughts are with those involved and their families,” S/Sgt. Josh Roda states in a news release issued Wednesday. “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
Anyone who witnessed the motorcycle crash or may have dash camera video and has not spoken to investigators is asked to contact the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
