RCMP are crediting quick thinking from a vigilant Logan Lake resident, for helping remove an impaired driver off the road.
In a press released on Friday afternoon, Logan Lake RCMP say that on Thursday afternoon (May 28), a witness observed a man exiting a pickup truck behind the grocery store on Opal Drive. The witness noticed the individual was “unsteady on his feet and was seen stumbling into a pole outside the store.”
The same individual was later observed at a nearby bank, where a strong odor of liquor was noted.
Concerned by the behaviour, a witness contacted RCMP and provided a description of the individual and the vehicle. Officers quickly attended the area and located a truck being operated by a man matching the description provided.
RCMP conducted a roadside breath demand, and the driver subsequently found to be impaired. He received a 90 day driving prohibition and a 30 day vehicle impoundment.
“The quick thinking and detailed observations from a member of the public were instrumental in allowing officers to intervene before someone was seriously hurt,” said, Cpl. Chris Odgaard, Logan Lake RCMP Detachment Commander. “This is a strong example of how the public and police working together can improve safety in our community.”
Police are reminding the public that if they suspect a driver may be impaired, they should call 911 and report it immediately.
