Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce vote to dissolve
The remaining board of directors along with a handful of members in attendance have voted to begin the process of dissolving the Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce.
The Chambers interim chair Max Patel, sited declining membership, lack of participation from its members and limited resources as just a few reasons the Chamber of Commerce is dissolving.
The Chamber which was formed in 1906, reports that there were just 38 members of the Chamber of Commerce registered in 2025, a far cry from the membership numbers in previous years which exceeded over 130 members in 2013-2014
The motion was adopted during last night’s annual General Meeting.
The board will now oversee payment of outstanding debts and obligations, closure of accounts and contracts, final filings and records retention, and lawful distribution of any remaining assets, if applicable.
More to come…
