Five new wildfires listed in the province in past 24-hours

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) is reporting that five new wildfires were ignited in the province over the past twenty-four hours,  bringing the total to fifteen with two that are listed as out of control. That brings the provincial total to 60 since the beginning of April.

The BCWS says that there is currently one fire to report in the Kamloops Fire Centre which encompasses Merritt and the surrounding area. That fire is a small four hectare fire on the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc IR #1 near Charles Lee Creek area was reported just after 6:30 p.m., and by 7:15 p.m. it was classified as being held. Fire officials also suspect the fire to be human caused.

On the BCWS website Thursday morning, it reported that 93 per cent of the current fires were human-caused, while one fire’s cause remains undetermined.
