I-SPARC Nomination deadline extended, in hopes more Indigenous Youth are nominated

TRADITIONAL TERRITORIES OF THE lək̓ʷəŋən PEOPLES / VICTORIA – The time is now to nominate Indigenous Youth across the province.

The nomination process has kicked off for the 2023 year with plenty of young athletes eligible for this years awards. The award honours Indigenous youth across the province, and is looking for young nominees who show excellent on-field and off-field leadership throughout their sport.

The deadline to submit nominations is extended to Friday, December 8, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. (PST). Those eligible must be Indigenous youth (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) in B.C. who are 24 years of age and younger (born 1999 or later), are a permanent resident of B.C., and enrolled in school or actively planning to pursue post-secondary education.

Other eligibility requirements include those who; compete in performance sport, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, are committed to pursuing higher education, serve as community role models both on and off the field of play, are involved in cultural activities or show a desire to learn about their Indigenous ancestry.

A maximum of 36 athletes will be selected for the regional awards, up to 6 athletes within each of I·SPARC’s regions: Northeast, Northwest, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver Coastal, and Vancouver Island.

The award ceremony will take place online virtually.

Perhaps the most exciting part for Provincial Award is the permanent fixture in the hall of fame and money for their winnings. Succesful nominees will have their profile placed on display at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and will receive a cash bursary.
