Merritt RCMP seek public assistance as white goat dies in brutal Animal Cruelty case

MERRITT — The Merritt RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to identify where a goat came from. In a news release Merritt Police confirmed a white goat was attacked and killed in a brutal act of animal cruelty in the City of Merritt.
On November 24, 2023, the Merritt RCMP were alerted to an online post, where a suspect posted a video of a Pitbull violently attacking a white goat inside a house, where onlookers stood by encouraging the attack.
Officers were able to identify the house as being on the 2600 block of Granite Avenue, and obtained a search warrant under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The South East District Emergency Response Team were called and assisted by executing the search warrant. The SPCA aided during the search.
Sadly, we found the remains of a goat during our search.Says Staff Sergeant Josh Roda.We are trying to identify where the goat came from. We would like to determine if the goat was stolen, sold or given away.
The goat had a white body, brown on the top of its head and was wearing a collar in the video.
