For 63-years, the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo and Fall Fair have been the unofficial “end of summer” event in the region and this year’s two-day extravaganza promises to be the best one in recent memories according to organizers.
The Pro Rodeo and Fall Fair returned to the Nicola Valley last year (2022) after Covid-19 forced the event to take a two-year hiatus.
This year’s Pro Rodeo & Fall Fair is scheduled for Sept 2-3 at the Merritt Rodeo Grounds, however, on Friday Sept. 1st, the rodeo kicks off with the return of the Rodeo Street Parade.
“We’ve always had a parade as part of the rodeo weekend,” said parade organizer Jaqueline Whitecross. “Last year as we organized the Rodeo and Fall Fair, we had hoped to restart the Street Parade as well. But with restrictions just being eased last year, we opted not to pursue the parade for everyone’s safety.”
Whitecross said the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo Parade will be an evening event and applications are now being accepted.
“We want this parade to be one that the city is proud of,” Whitecross added. “Merritt has a terrific Christmas Parade every year and that’s what we want to have for the Rodeo.”
