With school now officially done for the summer, Merritt RCMP want to remind motorists that just because school are closed, you should still use caution when driving near school zones.
Cpl. Brock Hedrick of the Merritt detachment told Q101 news that while the 30km/h school speed zone is not in effect for the summer months, motorists should still drive with caution.
“Even though the school speed zone is not in effect during the summer months, we do know that many youngsters will use the school playgrounds this summer, said Hedrick. “We are encouraging motorists to please be aware that children could be in the area.”
Hedrick also reminded drivers that the playground speed zones are still in effect during the summer from dawn to dusk so reduce your speeds to 30 km/h.
