MERRITT – Search efforts are continuing to find two fishermen on Stump Lake.
Merritt RCMP said they were notified of two fishermen, from the Lower Mainland, were missing on Stump Lake in the early hours of June 20.
Police said the two were last seen by friends, fishing in a small aluminum boat late into the night.
Kamloops Search and Rescue were notified and attended the area, along with Police Dog Services. An extensive ground, water, and air search was also conducted.
According to officers, debris belonging to the fishermen was found floating near the north end of the lake but no sight of the two or the boat.
“We are not releasing the names of the missing fishermen at this time,” said S/Sgt. Josh Roda. “We want to give the families privacy while they try to comprehend what took place.”
The RCMP Under Water Recovery Team will be continuing search efforts at the lake in the coming days.
If anyone has information, or comes across debris while at Stump Lake that might belong to the fishermen, please call Merritt RCMP.
