MERRITT – The province has put a Smoky Skies Advisory in place for the Merritt area — but it stops short of reaching Kamloops.
The advisory issued Thursday morning (June 8) covers the Nicola and South Fraser Canyon areas, as well as portions of the northeast part of B.C.

It says the areas highlighted are expected to be hit by wildfire smoke over the next 24-to-48 hours.
The forecasting service FireSmoke.ca shows smoke drifting eastward from a pair of fires in the Harrison Lake area.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to take health and safety precautions — especially those with respiratory sensitivities.
