Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for the Nicola region

MERRITT – Environment Canada (EC) has put a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the Nicola region.

According to EC, this storm may be capable of producing nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.

Officials say heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Intense lightning may also occur.

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches,” wrote Environment Canada. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
