MERRITT – The City of Merritt has road construction starting today (May 15).
There will be underground utility work and re-paving along Voght Street, near Priest Avenue. The City said there will be construction and traffic control around the Merritt Central Elementary School. Also the road south of Priest to the Middlesboro bridge, will be closed with local traffic access only.
The work will be taking place Monday’s through Friday’s from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., until roughly June 30.
“Residents will experience an increase of vehicles, equipment and noise in the area,” wrote the City. “Please be aware that some equipment used may cause vibrations. Secure any valuables on your walls to ensure they are not impacted.”
Officials note that the parking lot and sani-dump will also be closed, with the garbage bin on site being removed, while the work is taking place.
The construction is not limited to those driving. The areas along Voght will be closed to pedestrian traffic as well.
“A temporary pedestrian path along the east side of the fence along the school field will be provided, but may be closed without notice as deemed necessary by work crews.”
Residents with any further questions about the project can contact either Public Works or Civex Construction, the crew assigned to the job.
