MERRITT – As students return to school after spring break, Merritt RCMP are reminding residents about school zone safety.
“We just want to encourage the public to be cautious around school zones,” said Sgt. Josh Roda. “We just want to make sure everybody gets to where they need to go safely.”
Police are advising parents not to leave the vehicle running while parked outside of the school.
“If you are going to park your vehicle outside of the school and leave the vehicle, please don’t leave it running, definitely don’t leave your keys inside, turn the vehicle off, take your keys with you, go pick up your child, and then return to your vehicle.”
The main message Roda wanted to get across was slow down and remember the speed limit in school zones is 30 km/h.
