MERRITT – The Merritt Snowmobile Club is putting on a fun event this Saturday (February 19).
There is going to be chili and a scavenger hunt for those in the community wanting to head to the mountain.
“We have our chili run scavenger hunt,” said Simon Rizzardo, Vice-President of Merritt Snowmobile Club. “There will be banners that we will hand out and have in different locations, the idea will be go out, have your ride and go ride to the banners take your photo in front of them, come back and show us you went to all of the hot spots and put your name in for the draw.”
The event will be taking place at Thynne Mountain in Brrokmere, with lunch taking place at Andy’s Lake shelter.
“I believe the chili is $10 per bowl and you get a bun and chili. The guys are going to be making it the night before so they are going to be doing that up on Saturday and we will have hot dogs, the Costco hotdogs, that everybody loved last year that we sold out of we are going to make sure we have lots of that this year.” said Rizzardo.
Along with the lunch and the scavenger hunt, Rizzardo said there will be trophies handed out for ‘best of’ categories throughout the day.
“We have some nice gear trophies. I was just down there having them set up and we are going to have categories like ‘youngest rider’, ‘best dressed’, and ‘worst prepared’ which is the one that comes out and needs a spark plug, fuel, or oil.”
Any snowmobile is welcome to come participate but Rizzardo is putting an emphasize on the older sleds to join and get shown off.
“Bring everybody out and bring your vintage sled that’s really what we are pushing for this weekend.”
The scavenger hunt is free for members and $25 for non-members.
Even though there hasn’t been too much snow and warmer temperatures lately, Rizzardo said there is still plenty of time to get out and have some fun.
“There is lots of snow let. The groom was out last weekend and they did a nice family loop up Brooks Road and back down Pine Mountain Road.”
