MERRITT – Environment Canada has placed a winter storm warning for the Coquihalla Highway.
The warning is in place between Merritt and Hope.
Officials are predicting snowfall around 25 cm over the span of today (February 7) and throughout the night.
“A frontal system moving across the BC Interior will give heavy snow to southern highway passes,” said Environment Canada. “Light snow this morning will intensify later in the today. The snow will abate Wednesday morning as the system exits the region.”
With the heavy snow, crews warn of difficult driving conditions and poor visibility on the highways.
“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” said officials.
Before deciding to head out, always check DriveBC.
