TNRD makes donations to local organizations

MERRITT – The Nicola Valley Food Bank (NVFB) continues to receive donations ahead of the holiday season, this time coming from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD).

$4,000 each was donated by David Laird, Director of Electoral Area M, and Herb Graham, Director of Electoral Area N, towards the food bank to help those in need this Christmas.

“Its always so difficult for the food bank to have everything they need, so Herb [Graham] and I decided that it would be a good idea to spend some of our discretionary funds and we brought them an $8,000 Christmas gift to make sure everybody is happy for Christmas,” said Laird.

The NVFB was not the only organization that was receiving funds, as both Directors also gave money to M-S-S athletics.

“We are donating $500 each for the Secondary School athletic group, it was initially for the volleyball tournament but we couldn’t get the money soon enough, so they will use it for future athletics,” said Graham.

Both Directors echoed each other in saying it’s about spreading the money around to where it needs to go.

“It’s kind of nice that we have the discretionary funds, that’s what its for, you find something that is required in the community and donate funds for that,” said Laird.
