MERRITT – A BBQ was put on by Canada Post yesterday (October 19) to raise money for the Canada Post Community Foundation.
The money collected during the annual fundraising efforts goes directly toward grant funds that local organizations can then apply for.
“We raise money that goes towards successful grant applicants from coast to coast,” said Roberto Klarich, Canada Post’s local area superintendent. “All of the money raised stays within the province and goes towards programs dedicated to enriching children lives in every community.”
When it comes to which organizations can apply for the grants, Klarich said there has been a previous Merritt winner but would love to see more come from the community.
“We would like to see Merritt local community Not-for-Profit groups apply for the grants because next year we would love to see a recipient based out of Merritt. We have been successful in the past with the Merritt Curling Club, they have been a successful grant applicant and we are hoping next year we will have another one locally.”
Organizations can begin to apply for grants in the spring.
“I just want to thank all of our employees for supporting the program but also the community for their support for the Post Office and the program as well,” said Klarich.
