Advanced voting beings today

MERRITT – Advanced voting begins today for the upcoming municipal election.
Between 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Civic Centre, residents can go cast their early ballot.
In order to be eligible to vote residents must:
- 18 years or older on October 15
- Canadian Citizen
- Living in BC at least six months
- Resident of Merritt
- Not be disqualified from voting by law
If non-residents wan to be able to vote they must:
- 18 years or older on October 15
- Canadian Citizen
- Living in BC at least six months
- Not be disqualified from voting by law
- Owned property in Merritt for at least 30 days
- May only vote once (those who own two properties don’t get to vote twice)
In order to cast a vote, the required documentation is:
- Two documents that prove your identity
- Signature
- Date of birth
- Social Insurance Number
The documents could be:
- BC Drivers Licence and BC Healthcare card
- If you have a combined licence and healthcare card it only counts as one
- BC ID card and utility bill with your name on it
- Contains signature, name, and address
- Owner’s certificate of vehicle and a property tax notice
- Contains signature, name, and address
- Credit/debit card issued by bank
If you can not make it to advanced voting today, there is another opportunity on October 12 from 8:00 a.m-8:00 p.m..
Residents are voting for a mayor, six councilor seats, and three school board trustee positions.
General voting day is October 15th.
