MERRITT – Ahead of the upcoming municipal election, an all candidate forum took place in Merritt.
Hosted by the Merritt & District Chamber Of Commerce, candidates got the chance to answer questions submitted by the public.
All four mayor candidates and 16 out of 18 councilor candidates were in attendance at the Civic Centre Auditorium Monday night (October 3). The two councilor candidates not present were Jay Barley and Darrel Brooks.
There was seven questions in total asked to the 20 candidates who were there campaigning, those questions were:
- Do you have a plan for long term housing, a local plan for long term housing?
- Do you think future flood prevention is more important than fixing the current housing issue?
- For phase four resident who still aren’t home, will there be security during the colder months and what about there concerns of squatters?
- What are your thoughts on a rainbow crosswalk project?
- What relationships have you built that you see helping you if elected?
- How would you communicate projects to the community and then allow them to have their say?
- What are you going to do to encourage big business to locate here in Merritt?
A video of the forum can be found online.
Residents head to the polls on October 15.
