Merritt Curling Club receive more funding to complete new roof
MERRITT – The Merritt Curling Club will be getting more funding from the city to complete renovations to their roof.
City council voted in favour of increasing the original funding on $40,000 to $80,000 in order for the roofing project to be completed.
“We can’t go forward without it,” said Susan Newton, Merritt Curling Club representative. “We need a roof badly, it’s leaking every time it rains or snows for the past 9 years so we really need it fixed, its a hazard on the ice for the curlers. As well, we are not sure how much damage is done inside right now, we don’t think there is any damage it dries out, but with this funding we can go ahead and get our roof fixed.”
With curling season starting mid-October, Newton said they are hopefully to get this process started sooner rather than later.
“We are looking at a week or two weeks to get three tenders, we will choose one along with the City and the TNRD M and N districts all together, there our partners and we will decide which company to go with. We are hoping to get started this year, I can’t guarantee that though as it depends on the company we choose if they are ready to go ahead but if they can do it in lets say September-October we can continue curling and it won’t affect us.”
