Councillor Melvina White announces she will be seeking re-election
MERRITT – Councillor Melvina White has announced her intentions to seek re-election in October.
“I care about Merritt and I love Merritt or else I wouldn’t be here trying to make things better and move forward.”
White said getting the communities input on tourism in very important to her but she also mentioned growing the city is another factor.
“My other big concern is preserving and growing our downtown and preach economic development within the city. Being able to hopefully move things forward and be apart of the rebuild that needs to happen with all of our catastrophes that have happened in the past year.”
When it comes to re-election, White said that her time on council and here ability to reach out to the community is some of the factors that make her valuable.
“One of the big things that I think I can do is I always try and listen and I always will listen and communicate with the community with the highest level I possibly can. The whole job is learning and moving forward and hopefully try to fix mistakes and just make things better and make it so we are a community people want to come and do business in and move to.”
White joins Councillor Adam Etchart as the only two councillors seeking re-election, which leaves four vacant seats.
When it comes to the mayoral race, current Councillor Tony Luck announced his intentions to join Mayor Linda Brown in running.
Residents head to the polls on October 15th.
