The City of Merritt also announced there will be no fire works again this year.
“This cancellation is due to several other factors, including a wet spring that is building a foundation of grasses and other foliage that will be getting tall now that the sun has come out,” said Sky McKeown, Director of Recreation and Facilities. “We are playing it safe and being proactive in preventing anything unnecessary from happening. There are also still several people in our community trying to mentally recover from recent devastating events and we are not looking to add to their anxiety by hosting the fireworks portion of the Canada Day celebrations”.
For those firework lovers out there, McKeown said you should only have to wait four more months to see the show.
“It’s just for this year, at this time, it is hard to say what’s going to happen for future Canada Day firework show celebrations. As of right now the 2022 City Halloween Fireworks Show is being planned for.”
