MERRITT – The ALS walk took place in Merritt on Saturday with amazing support from the community.
With the goal of trying to raise $10,000 in support of ALS research, that goal was reached and then some.
“Not only did we double the amount of money we raised last year, so almost $20,000 maybe more than that I haven’t counted it all yet, but we also doubled the amount of participants in our walk this year,” said ALS walk organizer, Tammy Brown.
This walk was organized for Tammy’s dad Tony who suffers from ALS and he and the family want to raise money to help others who also suffer from this disease.
“All of these dollars go towards directly helping ALS patients with the equipment, doing the research, and bringing clinical trials to BC so that people don’t have to travel so far to try and get different help for this disease.”
When it came to the donations, it wasn’t just the City of Merritt that supported, but also the Town of Princeton.
“We lived in Princeton for a number of years and dad actually grew up there and he was in the logging community. We went over to Princeton; my sister took my dad over and did some canvasing around some of the local logging businesses and some of the people there and the donations started rolling in from the community of Princeton.”
On behalf of the entire family, Tammy wants to thank both the communities of Merritt and Princeton and to every business and person that donated and showed up to support.
