Merritt man charged with seven new counts after a foot chase with RCMP

MERRITT – A Merritt man has been charged with multiple offences after a foot chase with officers while out on bail.
Merritt RCMP said they received a call Tuesday (June 14) afternoon about a man smashing the canopy window of a truck in the 2500 block of Coutlee Avenue.
“The man fled from police and after a short foot chase was tackled and arrested,” said RCMP. “He was identified as Mr. Karlson. Mr. Karlson was found to be in breach of his bail.”
Karlson was on bail from a previous incident that happened in April.
On April 29, police said Karlson was charged with 15 counts including Unlawful Confinement, Break and Enter, Commit Robbery and Steal Firearms, Flight from Police and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
According to RCMP, Karlson pleaded guilty to Break and Enter and Commit and Indictable Offence, Possession of Stolen Property and Flight from Police in relation to the April incident.
Karlson has now been charged with seven new counts, including Mischief, obstruct a Police Officer, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Fail to Comply with Release Order four times.
He is currently in custody pending a bail hearing.
