Minar Looks Forward To Making Community FireSmart

Wildfire season is just around the corner and the City of Merritt’s new Emergency Program Coordinator wants everyone to be better prepared this year than last year.

Krista Minar, told Q101 that last year was a turbulent time for Merritt and surrounding area, first with Covid, then wildfires and then the November floods which caught everyone off guard with the evacuation of the City.

As wildfire season approaches Minar said  her focus this year will be to help residents become more FireSmart.

“We need to be more prepared when an emergency happens,” said Minar. “We know there are lots of projects going on city-wide but from individual household from Individual household, we recognize that we are still not as prepared from a FireSmart perspective or from an emergency management side either.”
