Merritt Food Bank In A Good Place: Hewton
While she is not taking anything for granted, the General Manager of the Nicola Valley Food Bank is pleased to report that the organization appears headed in the right direction.
Since the November floods, the agency has been providing food, clothing and supplies to those displaced by the disaster almost non-stop.
Derlanda Hewton, said that currently the shelves are fully stocked but donations are always welcomed.
“We are doing okay, but that being said we are bracing ourselves for whatever happens in the future,” Hewton said. “Our shelves are in good shape and we’ve received some great donations as well. Plus we received a grant from the City that allowed us to purchase supplies that we were short on”
She added that the flooding emergency also provided the Food Bank with an influx of volunteers, something the organization has attempting to do for years.
“Since the November flood, we have had a tremendous amount of volunteers join us here at the Food Bank,” she added. “We will never turn a volunteer away, even if you can spare a couple of hours that would be terrific.”
