The Merritt Centennials and the NVMA are hosting the qualification round of the Coy Cup this weekend. The Cup is awarded to the best Men’s Senior AA team in the CIHL.
The CIHL is a Men’s Senior AA Hockey League composed of alumni of the BCHL, WHL, professional leagues, college leagues and local players who stayed home after minor hockey but were still wanting to compete at a higher level. In the CIHL, there are ten teams, including Williams Lake, Quesnel, Smithers, Kitimat, Terrace and Prince Rupert, and three independent teams: Rossland, Powell River, and Dawson Creek.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s Coy Cup is being decided following a round robin between Powell River, Dawson Creek, and Rossland. Already Rossland has been eliminated, leaving just the Powell River Regals and Dawson Creek Senior Canucks to fight for glory this weekend in Merritt.
Dawson Creek is ahead of Powell River by one game, making Saturday night a must-win for the Regals to force a deciding game on Sunday.
The Powell River Regals and Dawson Creek Senior Canucks will be facing off at the NVMA on Saturday, March 5th, at 7:00 pm. Admission is free for twelve and under, $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.
If needed, the Regals and Senior Canucks will also be playing Sunday, March 6th at 1:30 pm.
