Council to propose motion at SILGA to improve snow clearing capabilities
For the second year in a row, the City of Merritt will head to the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA) conference with a motion to help improve snow clearing capabilities of residents.
After not receiving approval at the conference in 2021, Council will again attempt to pass a motion to allow ATV owners to legally use them on public property for snow clearing purposes.
The consensus around the council table was that the motion last year was not well enough explained and would benefit from an in-person conference.
“I would like to bring it back, we didn’t have the luxury of an in-person meeting last year. This way I think we might be able to talk to the motion,” said Coun. Tony Luck.
“I think it maybe didn’t represent well enough the idea,” added Mayor Linda Brown.
The motion speaks to SILGA working with the RCMP and local police forces to give exemptions to allow snow clearing to take place.
This year’s SILGA conference will be held in Salmon Arm between April 26-29.
