TNRD approves funding for Smith Pioneer Park
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors approved a substantial funding allocation for the Lower Nicola community.
Local Area Directors Herb Graham and David Laird are using $336,500 from the Canada Community-Building Fund, formally known as Gas Tax funding, for infrastructure improvements at Smith Pioneer Park in Lower Nicola. The funding is split 50-50 between the two Directors.
Previously the Board approved $44,100 of Canada Community-Building Funds for the Smith Pioneer Park improvements. The project will now move forward with all 8 phases over a two-year timeline.
“Director Laird of Electoral Area “M” and Director Graham of Electoral Area “N” would like to amend the original amount approved and allocate a total of $336,500 of Canada Community-Building Fund dollars (formerly known as Federal Gas Tax Funds) to infrastructure improvements at Smith Pioneer Park,” reads the TNRD report.
This project would fall under the Recreational Infrastructure category, which lists the following as an eligible project:
• Community energy systems – retrofit local government building and infrastructure;
• Recreation infrastructure – networks of parks, fitness trails, bike paths; and
• Tourism infrastructure – infrastructure that attracts travelers for recreation, leisure, business or other purposes
