MP Albas didn’t sign letter requesting Tory leadership review
This morning, the National Conservative Caucus will gather in Ottawa and vote on whether Erin O’Toole should remain their leader.
Tory MPs will vote in a secret ballot on the fate of their leader after one-third of the caucus signed a letter requesting the vote.
In an open letter to the caucus, MP Bob Benzen, who called for the leadership review stated “I called for a caucus review of Erin O’Toole’s leadership of the Conservative Party because of my worries that Mr. O’Toole’s public and private actions threatened an irreparable split in the party.”
Central Okanagan Similkameen Nicola MP Dan Albas confirmed to Q101 in a statement that he did not sign the letter asking for the leadership review.
“My focus this week has been and remains on holding Prime Minister Trudeau accountable to deliver on his promises to the communities of Princeton and Merritt as they rebuild from the flooding,” said Albas. “As this matter is now before our caucus out of respect for our leader as well as my caucus colleagues I will not be discussing this matter further until it has been dealt with in caucus.”
Should O’Toole be defeated, the Conservative would then be selecting a new leader for the third time in just over six years.
