On Saturday night, Ben Ward would return for the Merritt Centennials and make an immediate impact.
The Cents, who had failed to convert on the powerplay in the first two games south of the border, fixed that in a hurry, with Ward getting the last touch following a mad scramble in front of the Wild net to open the scoring, 1-0 Merritt.
Shot totals much lower than the previous games, just 7-7 after 20 minutes.
The Wenatchee wild would start to click in the middle stanza, scoring twice in 2:41 to take their first lead of the game. First was Brett Oberle firing on from the bad angle and bouncing one into the cage past Brandon Weare. The second goal came on a 2-on-1 with Hudson Blue finishing off the play.
The Wild would keep pouring it on, scoring twice in 10 seconds to open the lead to 4-1. Goals coming from Owen Bohn, and Mario Gasparini. The quick goals would end the night for Weare, Colton Phillips-Watts coming in to replace him.
No scoring in the third, as the Wild held on for the 4-1 win.
Cents finish off the unofficial first half of the season at 1-20-1-0. Merritt is back in action at home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 against Talon Zakkal and the Vernon Vipers.
