Residents that have been able to return to Merritt are still be asked to conserve water, and while that will be continuing, City Officials confirmed a second well is now operational.
“We have multiple wells that are online now, and putting water into our drinking water system,” said EOC Communications Manager Greg Lowis. “We are asking residents still to minimize their use of water because we don’t want to strain the system.”
Those living north of Nicola Avenue, in phase one and two, are still under a boil-water advisory. Those south of Nicola Avenue are under a don’t consume notice.
On Monday, the City with help from the Canadian Armed Forces worked to reinforce river defenses ahead of another atmospheric river event.
“The day was very productive,” said Lowis. “We are watching the forecasts very closely, which do suggest there will be some water coming towards us, but we’re not sure how much yet. We’re just making sure we’re just in as good a position as possible to withstand what we get.”
The atmospheric river is forecast to dump 40-70 mm of rain on the Coquihalla Summit, while the valley will receive lighter showers.
