The City of Merritt is announcing that no overland flooding occurred on Sunday (Nov.28) night.
“There was a huge amount of water that came down the River, it looks like it maxed out at 177 m^3/s, that’s one of the highest figures we’ve ever seen come through the Coldwater, however it is less than half of what came down two weeks ago,” said EOC Communications Manager Greg Lowis. “The work done by our City of Merritt crew, by the Canadian Arms Forces, by contractors, the dikes that they put in place and were reinforcing all seemed to have held. We are not aware of any overland flooding.”
Due to the improved conditions in Merritt, day access for residents in phase three will resume at 10am, and run to 3pm. The day pass system will be reviewed on a daily basis moving forward as another weather system is expected to hit British Columbia on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We are only prepared to make announcements on a day by day basis, because the weather system is so unpredictable at this point,” added Lowis.
Phase three and phase four of Merritt remain under evacuation orders, phase one and two are under an alert.
