Between 2,000 to 2,500 people went through ESS doors at McArthur Island since Monday morning (Nov. 15). ESS accommodated 300 files, meaning 966 evacuees were able to stay in hotels in Kamloops and Sun Peaks.
With that many Merritt residents already in Kamloops, EOC Communications Manager Greg Lowis explained three other cities are set to welcome evacuees.
“There is a change to the evacuation locations. Those looking to evacuate should check DriveBC for a safe route and proceed to Kelowna, Penticton, or Salmon Arm. Kamloops used to be a primary destination, but they have now reached their capacity,” said Lowis.
