All bridges to Collettville barricaded for safety

Due to ongoing safety concerns for both residents still in town and first responders, the two remaining bridges over the Coldwater River to Collettville are being barricaded.
“Bridge infrastructure has been greatly compromised due to flooding. The Voght Street Bridge over the Coldwater River has collapsed, and the Houston Street Bridge and Main Street Bridge might no longer safely support transportation. This poses fatal risks for residents and first responders,” said EOC Communications Manager Greg Lowis.
“The City of Merritt has made the decision to completely block all bridge access and use over the Coldwater River in Merritt. This means that no fire trucks and no ambulances will cross any bridge into Collettville until the bridges have been assessed as structurally sound,” added Lowis.
No exceptions will be made.
“RCMP will retain a presence on the south side of the Coldwater River to ensure the security of the municipality and residents’ property,” said Lowis.
