Merritt approves rate increase at Claybanks RV Park
The City of Merritt has approved a rate increase at Claybanks RV Park after a Fees and Charges Amendment was adopted.
“Staff research indicates that in order to ensure a competitive and fair market return on the investment made by City of Merritt taxpayers, it is necessary to amend the City of Merritt Fees and Charges Bylaw,” said recreation manager Sky McKeown. “This 2021 proposed increase will bring us in line with comparable facilities for the busy season as well as the off-season rates that are being charged.”
“Staff recognize that some of the fee increases may look sharp, particularly the 30% increase in the Low season monthly rate fees, however, there has not been any fee increase in the monthly Low season Claybanks RV Fee Schedule in several years and it is still comparable to or less than fees charged at other RV parks,” added McKeown.
Councillor Mike Bhangu was alone in opposition to the increase.
“I believe that the rates are suitable for Merritt, and raising them might make them not as suitable. For that reason I’m voting against the rate increase,” stated Bhangu.
