The Federal Government announced this week that a deal had been reached with the Provinces on a new vaccine passport for travel purposes.
The passport would be needed for international travel as well as travel within Canada on federally regulated modes of transportation (trains, airplanes).
Most provinces are set to meet the new national standard except for New Brunswick, Alberta, and British Columbia.
“If you want to travel internationally or on federally regulated modes of transportation you will need a federal card,” stated Premier John Horgan. “You are going to need two (cards) at the moment. We will see how we go in the months ahead to bring those two together.”
The BC vaccine passport will still be accepted across the province allowing citizens to attend everything from restaurants to sporting events, and the theatre.
“The Federal Government’s test is much higher for international travel,” added Horgan. “The new cards involve not just being immunized, but what vaccine did you receive, what date, what batch number did that vaccine come from. All of that information is held by the Ministry of Health and now will be required to be part of the federal immunization card.”
