School District 58 publishes ventilation upgrade information
On Tuesday, Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart questioned the NDP on providing information on promised ventilation upgrades in schools across BC.
“Obtaining school COVID data from John Horgan’s government has proven more than challenging for British Columbians, and the same can be said about the progress of promised ventilation upgrades in our schools to ensure our children are breathing clean air,” said Tegart.
Tegart stood to ask the Education Minister to commit to posting the ventilation information in a centralized location for parents.
“Parents worried about if their kids school has safe ventilation are being kept in the dark by this premier. We’ve been asking for months for details about which projects are complete, which are scheduled, to ensure that children have safe, fresh air in classrooms,” said Tegart.
While a single centralized location has not been made, locally, School District 58 Nicola-Similkameen has posted ventilation information on every school in the district online.
For example, the system at Merritt Secondary was last serviced in August of 2021 when filters were changed out.
The online form provides details on possible recommendations for the system and details on recent inspections.
