Sixteen months of hard work during a pandemic, and 450 unique voices combined to author School District 58’s new strategic plan.
The guiding document will help the district navigate the next number of years in both Merritt and Princeton.
“It was very inclusive process, we had members of the community, our different stakeholder groups, students, staff, parents, PAC members, the list was widespread,” said Superintendent Steve McNiven. “There is a whole variety of action items that we have our eyes on, and are really supporting as we go through this first year.”
The new plan focuses around three goals, meaning and purpose, appreciation and respect, and meaningful connections.
“Each one of those goals, when the committee came together was part of the dreaming process and the creation of what we wanted to see after 2024, into 2025 and 2026,” added McNiven.
“In the centre of the document is what we feel is most important and that all of us should be continuing to keep our eye on, and that is our number one mandate, which is students of course. In our schools, what do our students want to be able to see in the future,” said McNiven.
The full document can be seen on the districts new website.
