Merritt applying for asset management grant
Merritt City Council is looking to take better stock of the aging infrastructure around town and better plan for replacement and repair.
On Tuesday (Sept. 21), Council voted unanimously to approve applying for a maximum of $65,000 towards a $100,000 asset management project next year.
“The funding provides the means to work with a consulting firm to develop an asset management policy, an update to our existing 2016 policy, and to map out a basic asset management plan,” said Sean Strang, Deputy Director of Finance and IT.
“The plan will consider the current state of infrastructure, develop a condition assessment program, as well as implement an asset management and fiscal strategy,” added Strang.
Some asset management work was completed back in 2016 and the new grant hopes to build upon it.
“The intent is to revisit and build on the existing program with the purchase of asset management software that will centralize our asset inventory,” said Strang.
