While several mail-in ballots are still being counted in the riding, the preliminary numbers are showing a record low voter turnout.
With 246 of 247 polls reporting, 61,119 votes were cast across the region or 61.04% of eligible voters.
Back in 2019, 65,276 votes were cast or 69.28%, the 2015 election had even higher turnout at 70.96% and 62,164 votes.
The numbers are expected to rise slightly as mail-in ballots are tabulated, however the turnout will likely remain the lowest in the riding’s history.
Nationwide, voter turnout was under 60% at 59.02%, however it should increase as mail-in ballots are continued to be counted. The 2019 vote saw 67%.
