Reminder: what voters need before they head to the polls

KAMLOOPS — Canadian citizens who have not yet voted via mail-in ballot or advanced polls will make their decision Monday (Sept. 20).

Any Canadian citizen who is at least 18 years old and can prove their identity and address can go to the polls. Canadians can check if they’re registered to vote at their current address here.

Voters are recommended to bring their information card that was mailed to them, along with accepted ID, to make the voting process easier. The voter information card shows election workers that a voter’s registration is up to date and shows a polling number to help workers direct them to the right table.

There are three options for a voter to prove their identity and address:

• a card issued by a Canadian government with a citizen’s photo, name and current address, such as a driver’s license
• two pieces of ID, where both must have their name and at least one must have their current address, such as a voter information card, bank statement, utility bill, and student card
• declare their identity in writing and have someone who knows them and who is assigned to their polling station to vouch for them; the voucher must be able to prove their identity and address

Elections Canada says polls in B.C. are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 20.
