Entering this week’s Wyndham Championship, the situation was simple, yet dire for Merritt’s Roger Sloan.
Sitting at 131 in the FedEx Cup, Sloan had four rounds of golf to move up at least six spots and secure a tour card. Simply put, he needed a top-10 or even top-5 performance.
Sloan put himself behind the eight ball on Thursday shooting a +1 sitting 3 strokes below the projected cut line entering play on Friday. Sloan would make the cut with a dazzling 6-under 64 and double down on moving day Saturday with the lowest round of the day, another 6-under 64 to move up 29 spots on the leaderboard.
That puts the Merritt golfer tied for third place at -11, four strokes back of the American Leader Russell Henley.
If Sloan was to finish tomorrow tied for third, he would move up to 102 in the FedEx cup standings, make the playoffs and more importantly secure a tour card for next season.
Sloan will be in the second last group of the tee box Sunday at 6:01 am pacific time.
