Tremont Creek wildfire estimated at 38,000 hectares

The Tremont Creek wildfire has forced the entire community of Logan Lake to evacuate. The Thompson Nicola Regional District has also issued an evacuation order for 10 properties and an alert for 280 more to the east of town.
The Lower Nicola Indian Band has also been forced to issue an evacuation order for one of their reserves.
This morning, the blaze is stated to be within 7km of town.
The BC Wildfire Service estimates the fire at 38,000 hectares.
“There was continued fire growth to the south yesterday, originating from both the south and east flanks,” reads the release. “Structure protection personnel, including multiple municipal fire protection apparatus, remained on scene throughout the evening to monitor the fire and assess structure protection needs.”
The crews on site will be installing structure protection equipment today (Friday).
“Ground crews and equipment are working to establish contingency guards on the south flank of the fire, south of Tunkwa Lake,” continued the release.
